The Yautja, pronounced "E-wat-ya," are a hunter species whose culture revolves around the stalking and hunting of dangerous lifeforms. Commonly referred to as "Predators," Yautja hunt not for sustenance nor elimination of threats, but purely as a means of entertainment and proof of worth. As such, they will only attack life forms that have the ability, natural or technological, to provide them with a challenge. Indeed, Predators will often travel great distances to find worthy opponents, or seek out ways in which to attract or transport such prey to them. When travelling to other locations, Predators will often chose to perform their hunts in war zones or areas of great civil unrest, presumably so that their activities may go unnoticed.
Though many predators may embark on a hunt together, they do not aid one another in dispatching prey. Indeed, they work alone to maximize the challenge. Honor is a great part of their culture and history, and it is considered a great dishonor to break the tradition of a solo hunt.
All predators on a hunt compete with one another for status by taking trophies of their prey. Having the most or the most exotic trophies is considered to a high achievement.
Yautja are known to take skulls, skins, and trinkets from their prey as trophies.
Predators apparently have a special hunting relationship with the Xenomorphs (which they refer to as "Serpents"). They seem to consider the voracious alien lifeforms among the most worthy of prey and have been known to specifically breed the creatures at numerous sites for use in the initiation hunts undertaken by Young Bloods. To this end, the Yautja are known to capture and imprison Xenomorph Queens, using their Eggs to breed lesser castes to hunt.[2] Some of these captured Queens have apparently been imprisoned for tens of thousands of years.[9] Large statues of Xenomorphs can often be found in and around Yautja hunting temples and ruins
Yautja hunters can be male or female, typically standing 7' or more in height, and utilize a range of deadly weapons.
Primarily, the Yautja use precision weapons, whether they be long or short range, and often go hand to hand with their prey.
Yautja blades are known to penetrate most armor, including metal armor, and seem to be resistant to xenomorph corrosive acids.
Resilience
The Yautja species, by human standards, are incredibly difficult to kill. Their bodies can sustain incredible damage without dying, and seem to heal at a rate that renders human healing insignificant. Predators have taken numerous, high-powered rifle cartridges in conflicts with humans, yet were able to not only escape, but treat their wounds and return to battle in a very short amount of time.
This is a testament not only to their physical resilience, but also their advanced first aid technology.
A predator's honor prevents him from consciously allowing either 1) a complete over-run of a hunting ground by xenomorphs or 2) his technology being captured by humans. If a predator is near incapacitation and about to be captured by humans, he is honor bound to activate his self destruct mechanism.
In the case of xenomorphs, if the number of xenomorphs is so high that the predators feel they have lost control of the hunt, they will activate their self destruct and destroy the hunting ground, dying honorably.
Through these means, the Yautja have remained somewhat of a mystery to humans which has driven some companies to obsess over their technology, especially those specializing in advanced circuits and bio-technical research.
Hydra 5 involvement
Hydra 5 is an old xenomorph hunting ground. When humans inadvertently activated the xenomorph production system there, the Yautja clans decided that it was both an opportunity to hunt and to contain the xenomorph outbreak.
Each of the clans has sent their top champion hunter to represent them on this great hunt.
