Weyland Yutani is "Building Better Worlds."
WARNING, this document contains spoilers for several movies
Pioneers of the atmospheric processing technology, Weyland-Yutani turns desolate, uninhabitable lands into useful, thriving planets and moons that can support generations of humans. Their main focus as a company is to expand the human race across the galaxy while searching for the knowledge of the stars. Weyland-Yutani corp, also known as "the company," firmly believes in other species living among the stars with us and is searching down every lead it finds.
Several times over the years, this has not worked out well in Weyland-Yutani's favor and has ended in disastrous consequences for Weyland employees as well as ICC Marines.
In 2093, the founder of Weyland Corp, Peter Weyland leads an expedition to a far-away planet to attempt to retrieve information about the origins of human life. Project Prometheus
Here they encounter the first confirmed alien species ever recorded. The Engineers.
The Engineers had created a powerful bio weapon, one that Weyland was never able to study.
Sometime after Project Prometheus, Weyland acquires a company called Yutani corporation and thus becomes "Weyland-Yutani."
In 2122, Weyland-Yutani once again attempts to study alien life when it sends the crew of the Nostromo to investigate a beacon emanating from LV-426. (See movie "Alien")
The crew of the Nostromo then sat down on LV-246 and the crew was consequently exposed to a Xenomorph egg aboard an Engineer ship. The crewmember exposed was attacked by what is informally called a "facehugger." The "facehugger" impregnated him with a Xenomorph embryo, unbeknownst to the crew.
The Embryo later hatched inside him, releasing a baby Xenomorph. Xenos at this stage are known as "chestbursters" for their forceful birthing from the chest of their hosts. This process always results in the death of the host.
In only 24 hours, all but one of the crew of the Nostromo was destroyed by the Xenomorph. The remaining crewmember, one Ellen Ripley, sets the Nostromo to self destruct and escapes via an escape pod. Unfortunately, the Xenomorph is able to escape with Ripley on the escape pod, but is later flushed out an airlock. Ripley then floats aimlessly in space for 57 years.
In 2179, Ripley is recovered by a deep space salvage team and interviewed by current members of the company board as well as the ICC. When she reveals to them the story about the Xenomorph, she is stripped of her rank and discharged from her position as a flight officer. (See movie "Aliens")
She is informed that a colony of people exists on LV-426 and they've never reported the presence of any Xenomorphs.
Without warning them of the potential danger, company man Carter Burke sends a colonist salvage team to find the Engineer's ship, subsequently infecting the colony with Xenomorphs.
After losing contact with the colony, ICC Marines are sent with Ripley as an advisor to check out the colony. The only survivor found is a little girl, Rebecca "Newt" Jordan.
Newt informs them that everyone is dead.
The team then locates all of the colonists by way of a surgically implanted beacon. They send a team to their location to investigate.
Found to be infested with Xenomorphs, the Marine unit is all but wiped out.
The group decides to pull out of LV-426 and nuke the site from orbit, but their drop ship is attacked by a Xenomorph mid flight and crashes.
Left to fend for themselves, the surviving group barricades itself inside the compound. A plan is devised to have the remaining dropship aboard the mothership Sulaco remote piloted down to pick up the group.
The crash damaged the cooling unit of the atmosphere processor and it will explode in a nuclear blast in only 4 hours.
Xenomorphs attack the group while they are waiting, killing most of the survivors.
Eventually, the group manages to get off of the planet, again with a xenomorph hitching a ride back to the mothership.
Employing old tactics, Ripley is able to blow the xenomorph into space via an airlock.
The scant few survivors, Ripley, Newt, Cpl Hicks, and half of Bishop--a synthetic human, then set off back to civilization, having made it through the whole ordeal.
Shortly after their escape, for unknown reasons, the Sulaco jettisons the survivors in a stasis-ready life pod
This pod then crashes onto Fiorina 161, a penal colony. (See movie "Alien3"
Newt and Hicks are killed in the crash, and Bishop is carelessly discarded by the prisoners. Ripley, the lone survivor, must investigate exactly what happened.
The crash is later uncovered to be caused by an electrical fire started by xenomorph facehuggers that were on board. A facehugger also survives and impregnates a prisoner's dog. This new type of Xenomorph drone (Xenos take on properties of their hosts) is well suited to the air ducts and wreaks havoc on the prisoner population.
With no weapons of any kind, the prisoners must use themselves as bait to attempt to lure the creature into the leadworks where it can be killed with hot molten lead.
Meanwhile, Ripley discovers she is carrying an embryo inside her. The embryo is a queen xenomorph.
The creature is eventually lured and destroyed.
The company arrives with bio engineers to take Ripley. Refusing to give the company a live specimen, much less a queen, Ripley sacrifices herself by throwing herself into the leadworks.
The Alien queen hatches mid-fall and bursts from her chest, but Ripley grabs hold of it and carries it into the molten lead with her.
